Martha Earl named Director of the University of Tennessee Preston Medical Library and Health Information Center:

Please join us as we celebrate our great news!!  Congratulations on Martha’s promotion to Director!

Congratulations to Martha Earl, MSLS, AHIP on her promotion to Director of the University of Tennessee Preston Medical Library/Health Information Center. Martha succeeds Sandy Oelschlegel, MLIS, AHIP, the Director from 2003-2018, who is retiring. Martha has served at the UT Medical Center Preston Medical Library for the past 20 years and has been an assistant director for the past 10 years. She is also an Associate Professor in the UT Graduate School of Medicine and a lecturer for the UT School of Information Sciences.

“We are all grateful to Sandy whose leadership has lead the library and Information center through unprecedented growth in resources and national reputation,” said Dr. James Neutens, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine. “Martha through her intimate and enthusiastic knowledge of the library and her recognized skills in leadership and development is uniquely poised to continue that course.”

Martha’s current service to the profession includes Leadership Roundtable and Staff Development Committee for the Tennessee Library Association; the Hospital Libraries Committee for Southern Chapter/MLA;  and the Medical Library Education Section, Research Section, Section Council, Research Imperative Task Force, and the Research and Evidence-Based Practice Curriculum Committee for the Medical Library Association. She is a 2011/2012 National Library of Medicine/Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries Leadership Fellow and winner of the TLA Honor Award for 2014.
